The Century Part 4, Stormy Weather (1929-1936)

20th Century America, 1929-1936:

The Century, America's Time is a series done by ABC in the 1990's that tells the story of the twentieth century, a century dominated by technology, destruction, and a time when America became the world's greatest economic and political power. Episode 4, Stormy Weather documents the story of the Great Depression. A far cry from the "Roaring Twenties", after the stock market crashed in 1929, the American economy gradually collapsed. As Roosevelt asserted that, "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself," 16 million people were unemployed and millions of homes, businesses, and farms were being foreclosed on, eagerly awaiting a "New Deal" from the American government. This film is an excellent overview of the key events of the Depression.
