Napoleon Part 1, To Destiny

Europe, 1769-1796:

The year of Napoleon's birth his home island of Corsica is taken over by France. Napoleon's father becomes a French civil servant and secures Napoleon a scholarship in a prestigious military academy. Despite getting top academic marks in his schooling, young Napoleon fears that he'll never get anywhere in the French Army because he's Corsican and not noble-born. In 1789, though, everything changes with the French Revolution and Napoleon senses this will be a wave he can ride "to destiny". Napoleon Bonaparte is perhaps the best symbol of the important new political and spiritual forces that eventually transformed nearly every government in Europe during the 19th century. Napoleon would ultimately spread the ideals of the French Revolution to every corner of the continent and awaken a nationalistic desire in the hearts of many Europeans that would have devastating consequences in the 20th century.  Project Credit: In order to get credit for watching this film, download the movie worksheet attached here, fill out the questions as you watch the film, and submit the completed movie worksheet.
