Civil War Unit 4 Live Class: Total War

Total War

I will be hosting a live class at 1:00 pm MT on Thu 12-3, on the following topic: Total War. Unit 4 describes the year 1864, which was the time that the Union basically destroyed both the South's will and ability to wage war in a savage war of attrition. At the beginning of 1864, the problem faced by Union generals Grant and Sherman (pictured on the left) was that though the South could no longer win the war, they still kept fighting. Grant and Sherman's solution was to wear down both the South's army and its civilian population until they could no longer fight, a strategy that would later be used in both world wars and that is today called total war. In this class, we'll go over what this looks like, and anyone attending or viewing should have a nice grasp of this concept that will help them with the unit essay.
