Commanding Heights is a three part mini-series done by PBS based on a best-selling book by two leading economists of the same name. The subject of this series is the battle of market forces and governments for control of the world economy, a battle that has gone on for the last 100 years. Episode 2, The Agony of Reform documents the painful switch from mixed or controlled economies to market economies undertaken in the 1980's and early 1990's by several European, Asian, and Latin American nations. This film describes the ascendancy of Hayek's economic philosophies and the beginning of globalization.
