With these two readings, we are shifting from a broad focus on public policy to a narrower focus on individual experience, much as we did in Unit 2 with the readings on immigration. Notice that as the readings change in focus, they also change in tone. How would you characterize the mood or feeling of the Marquez and Mellix articles? Mellix in particular uses personal narrative to focus her ideas. How do you find this affects you as a reader? Is your emotional response to Mellix different from your response to King, for example?
