Cold War Episode 2: The Iron Curtain

Why was the US trying to "contain" communism in the first place? The series Cold War is a 24 episode series done by the BBC and CNN in the 1980's the documents the history of this nearly 50 year long conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union. Episode 2, The Iron Curtain describes the Russian takeover of Eastern Europe immediately following WWII. The term "Iron Curtain" first appears in a speech Winston Churchill gave in Fulton, Missouri in 1945 and was the beginning of the formulation of the Western plan to contain the Soviet Union and communism. This film gives the background for the eventual involvement of America in the conflict in Vietnam from the US point of view. I included this film in this course and unit so you may see why the United States felt compelled to contain communism in the first place.
