Ken Burns' The West Episode 6: I Will Fight No More Forever
The West, 1874-1877:
The West is an 8 part series done by Ken Burns in an effort to tell the story of the settlement of the Western United States and American treatment of Native Americans in this region. Episode 6, “I Will Fight No More Forever” documents the years 1874-1877, a time when most of the Indian nations had already surrendered with the famous exceptions of the Lakota Sioux and the Nez Perce, whose stories are told in this film. In addition to describing the story of the federal government's dealings with Indian tribes, this film also features interactions between the government and Mormon settlers. I include this film because it is an excellent example of the US government's policy in the settlement of the Western United States and its systematic treatment of Native Peoples.
