The fall sports teams of DHS have been hosting games to raise awareness for cancer and mental health.

Each team participated in “Pink Week'' to help raise money by selling ribbons. All of the proceeds were donated to the American Cancer Society.

Marauder teams sold a variety of ribbons. Volleyball sold breast cancer and pancreatic cancer ribbons, while boys and girls soccer focused on the latter. Boys and girls cross country teams sold mental health awareness ribbons during their meet. Field hockey raised money for melanoma skin cancer, while football and cheer sold ribbons for multiple causes, including breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, skin cancer and mental health awareness.

Support was shown not only through the purchase of ribbons, but also by the apparel worn by attendees. “Pink Out,” a campaign where people wear pink clothing or accessories to show support for those affected by breast cancer, was the dress theme for many of the games.

Field hockey, football, both soccer teams, and volleyball also wore pink apparel for their games.

At their awareness game, the field hockey team recognized Kerry Kelley, a DHS alumnus who is currently fighting a battle against melanoma, by wearing warm up jerseys donned with a "KK' logo. Kelley, herself, attended the event as an honorary guest. Her nieces served as honorary captains and ball girls during the game.

Th volleyball team paid tribute to former DPS teacher Christine Stec, who lost her battle with pancreatic cancer last year, by branding their game “Sets for Stec.''

The overall effort was very successful. 320 ribbons were sold at five dollars each, for a grand total of $1,600.
