The 2021 pep rally was a welcome distraction after all the pandemonium that COVID-19 has caused. The event introduced DHS pride to the freshmen and sophomores who had never experienced a rally before. For juniors and seniors, it brought back memories of a united student body.
The rally began with cheers prompted by Mr. Medeiros. Roars from all four grades combined shook the bleachers. And to top off, there was a charged performance from the DHS band.
Another inspired performance followed from the DHS cheerleaders. They even had the football players joining in for part of their routine.
Next, the winners of the homecoming court were announced for each grade: (grade 9) Jimmy Doyle; (grade 10) Isabel Solorzano; (grade 10) Jonnaleese Ramos and Stephon Edmond; and (grade 12) Flynn Rodgers and Rebecca Scace won.
They weren't the only winners, as there was also a raffle. Ms. Tucci and 11th grader, Alexer Esteban, won a book by future guest speaker, Jennifer De Leon, titled “Don’t Ask Me Where I am From."
Sadly, the rally was cut short due to a lack of time. Before the event ended, however, there was the infamous Tug of War! First were the freshmen vs. the seniors. Which the seniors won in one fell swoop. Then came the juniors vs. the sophomores. The juniors emerge victoriously. After that, came the match between the juniors and the seniors. Seniors came out victorious. Lastly, it was the staff vs. the seniors. It was a tough match, but the staff gave it their all and won!
