Dedham Girls Volleyball hosted their "Dig Pink" breast cancer fundraiser game at home on October 13th, where they defeated Bellingham 3-1.

Posters flooded the halls of DHS, and both audience and volleyball team members could be seen wearing pink.

This was the girls' first win of the season, which made this event all the more special. Leading their team to victory were sophomore captains Priscilla Pouliot and Grace Bayiates. When asked about the win, Priscilla said, “The team really came together in all aspects tonight with our persistent communication and our constant hustle”. Starters Priscilla Pouliot, Grace Bayiates, Megan McMillan, Caroline Demeo, Meryl McCormick, Christina Gentile, and Jada Gourdet gave the team a strong start by winning the first set.

The Dedham team was forced to battle back after losing the second set. The third set was one for the books, as the set closed with a comeback from Dedham and a back and forth ending leaving the audience and players on their toes. The set ended after Dedham’s 29th point despite the normal 25 to end, making the set final score 29-27.

The team held strong through the end with amazing serves and plays all around, including Lily Hyde who made it onto the court at various times during the game. The girls finished the game by winning the fourth set and giving Dedham girls varsity volleyball their first win in years.

“Our win against Bellingham felt incredible and was everything this team deserved," said Coach Anderson. "They came in day one working so hard to learn and learn more about developing their skills, teamwork and being that great volleyball team that they could be. Being so young we knew it was going to be a challenge but to beat a team full of juniors and seniors just shows the strong future this team will have in the next two years.”

The team ended up raising $300 for breast cancer, which they donated to Marisa's Mission, a non profit organization dedicated to making a difference in the lives of cancer patients and their families.
