The DHS varsity football team faced Canton High at home on Friday night. The Marauders entered the game with a 2-0 record. While both teams played competitively, the Dedham offense struggled to maintain their momentum, which resulted in a 14-3 loss.

Interceptions resulted in both of Canton’s touchdowns, whose record is now 1-2. Dedham’s three points came from a field goal by kicker Landon Silver (#57). Throughout the first half, Dedham quarterback Joe Goffredo (#9) and wide receiver Jack Millea (#3) played like a well-oiled machine.

Goffredo is only a sophomore, but has already earned a spot as starting quarterback on the varsity team. “We kind of go as he goes, offensively," said Dedham Head Coach Mike Cloutier of Goffredo. "He is definitely somebody to keep an eye out for.”

This fall marks Cloutier’s first season as head coach, but he already has big aspirations for his team. Cloutier has expressed high hopes for many of his players. When asked about the possibility of some of his athletes playing college football, he responded, “I definitely think we have a handful of kids that could play college football if they want to. It's is not for everyone, some of these kids, after these next 10-11 weeks, will never play again. I’d say we have probably 6 or 7 seniors that could play college ball.”

While this may have been a tough loss for Dedham, Coach Cloutier won’t allow the team to get discouraged. He believes that dwelling on the past is detrimental for players. “We want to make sure that we are attacking every day, every week. [Every day] is a new day for us," he said.

The bleachers were filled with Dedham supporters, many of whom participated in the “Black-out” theme. The energy in the crowd radiated school spirit and pride for our team.

Fans of Dedham football can see the next varsity game against Dover-Sherborn this Friday, October 1 at Dover-Sherborn High School.
