DHS euphonium player Lily Hyde participated in the prestigious Massachusetts Music Educators Association All-State Festival at Symphony Hall in March as part of the All-State Wind Ensemble, a group that consists of the best wind ensemble players in Massachusetts.

“After all the times I’ve watched performances of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, it was an incredible feeling to be able to perform on that same stage," Hyde said.

The All-State Festival is a two-day-long festival that includes rehearsals, an overnight stay in Boston, and a performance. Participants consider it a great honor to be a part of, as only a handful of musicians are selected. “Making it into the group really makes it feel like all my hard work has paid off."

She described the experience as "fun and welcoming." Hyde got to play challenging pieces of music and met numerous people whom have become friends. “Having the opportunity to play with so many talented people who have worked just as hard as you did is incredibly satisfying, and the music you make together is amazing," she said.

Hyde received lots feedback from the professionals around her throughout the experience that allowed her to adapt and adjust her performance for the better. She has since taken what she's learned back to DHS to continue improving.
