Tom Brady passes the ball during another excellent season.
Tom Brady, the seven-time Super Bowl champion has lost out of the divisional round of the 2022 playoffs. Brady is notable for playing in ten Super Bowls, winning six with the New England Patriots and one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Throughout his career, Brady has played in 47 playoff games and has won 35 of them holding the record.
In the 2020 season, Brady was able to lead the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a Super Bowl victory while being the 5th seed with an 11-5 record, and no playoff games at home. The team was finally given an upper hand as they hosted the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs in Tampa Bay. Through Brady’s leadership, the team was able to secure a huge win against the Kansas City Chiefs with a score of 31-9.
Tampa’s record was 13-4 (an additional game was added by the NFL) during the 2021 season, and they were the 2nd seed. In the wildcard round of playoffs, the Buccaneers effortlessly beat the Philadelphia Eagles 31-15. The following game the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were set to face the Los Angeles Rams.
This match did not go as smooth, with Tampa Bay down 3-27 in the 3rd quarter. Many believe Tampa had such a hard time as many crucial offensive players such as receiver Chris Godwin and all pro right tackle Tristan Wirfs were unable to play. Miraculously, Brady found a way to get Tampa Bay back in the game as he led the team to score 24 unanswered points to tie the game 27-27.
With 42 seconds left to play, L.A. Rams were given possession of the ball. The Rams’ quarterback Matthew Stafford threw a 50 yards pass to wide receiver Cooper Kupp, putting the Rams in field goal range. With four seconds left, kicker Matt Gay made the winning field goal resulting in a final score of 30-27 in favor of the Rams.
This loss was a difficult one for many supporters of Tampa Bay and Brady, as they will not be appearing in Super Bowl LVI. This loss is made even more significant by the retirement rumors that’ve been surrounding Brady for years. Will Brady tough it out for another season in hopes of securing an 8th ring, or will Patrick Mahomes and other promising young quarterbacks take up his mantle?
