Mirror Review: The Nun II

You asked for it, you got it.

The Nun ll picks up Sister Irene's (Taissa Farmiga) story four years later in 1956 France, where she resides in a convent with her fellow sisters as she tries to recover from the events of the first film.

The plot follows Irene and Maurice (Jonas Bloquet), a fellow survivor and friend to Irene, who lives as a servant at a boarding school for nuns. Irene is asked to investigate a slew of murders involving priests. She’s hesitant at first, but reluctantly agrees while also dreading the thought of the sinister being she may encounter during the course of her investigation.

Overall, The Nun ll, directed by Michael Chaves, is a sloppy sequel. The writing is plain awful and most of the scares are predictable and boring. This is mainly due to the filmmakers either rushing or prolonging the tension in each scene.

For fans, the most anticipated part of the movie is seeing the return of the nun, herself, (Bonnie Aarons) only to have her appear in a short scene here and there. When she appears near the end of the film, levitating in the air, the special effects are so bad that it's cringeworthy. It simply looks like Aarons' face superimposed on the body of the demon nun.

The Nun II does a disservice to its predecessor and should never have been released. If given the chance, I would pay double my ticket price to forget about this dumb movie. It was a waste of my time and surely will be a waste of yours.
