The Dedham Unified Basketball team poses with their challengers: the DHS staff.
The Dedham Unified Basketball team suited up on November 21st to face the less than formidable DHS staff.
Cheerleaders lined up in the middle of the court as each teacher and player was announced individually to much applause. The song "Get Your Head in the Game" from High School Musical began the event. The atmosphere was positive and charged as the athletes danced around the court.
Immediately after tip-off, Peter Tittler scored the first point. So began a game dominated by the Unified squad. Each player scored many points; however, Michael Ho scored the most with 20.
The staff did their mediocre best, but they just could not compete against the defensively-gifted and offensively-skilled Unified team.
Principal Forrest was among the many spectators and could be heard cheering on each player. Even DHS' former assistant principal, Ms. Yankee, came out to show her support for the athletes.
The Unified team won the match-up handily, 91 to 31. In celebratory fashion, Lily Burton showed her muscles to the crowd and announced, “I crushed the teachers!”
Luke Ryan’s favorite part of the game was shooting the ball. He was overjoyed with his team’s victory.
Unified coach Mr. Iozzo had this to say: “The staff put up a good fight and were a quality opponent, but our team’s offense was too strong for them in the end.”
Staff player Ms. "E-Mac" MacDonald added, "I loved guarding Lily, even though she told me she’d mop the floor with me.”
Student helper Connie Doyle summed it up best: “It was a great experience and really fun!”
