A simple five-letter word game has taken the world by storm!

Wordle has gained popularity over the past couple of months as the number of players continues to increase dramatically. The number of people who played the game daily was around one million in January of 2022.

Wordle is not an app. It can only be accessed through a website browser. A player starts by guessing a five-letter word. The letters are highlighted in either gray, yellow or green. Gray means the letter is not used, yellow means the letter is used, but not in the correct spot and green signifies that the letter is used and in the correct spot. Players have six tries to guess the word. Once they do they have to wait the next day for the next word.

The game is taken very seriously by some folks. Most do not want any help in guessing the correct word, while others ask for assistance or even play in groups. Many compare scores with others to see who got the word in the least amount of tries. Players have the option to share their scores with others through social media services, such as text, Messenger, or Twitter.

Created by Josh Wardle, Wordle was released to the world on November 1, 2021. It was recently purchased by the New York Times for somewhere between $100,000-$999,999. This purchase has many worried as many ponder the possibility of charging people to play. As of right now, the game is free, and the New York Times has made no statement saying they will charge consumers.
