Mustangs vs. Marauders on October 21st.
The DHS field hockey team celebrated their amazing twelve seniors alongside their family and teammates on October 21st during a hard-fought 0-0 tie against Norwood.
The team went into this season working hard to prove themselves after losing 13 seniors last year. Throughout, they put the effort in to show everyone that they were competitors and could secure a tournament spot.
The senior players inspired the team all season long. This awesome group of girls put their heart and soul into making sure this season was one to remember, leading every game and practice.
Captain Connie Doyle has been playing as a forward for the team since she was in 8th grade. She continues to prove herself worthy of the position at every practice and game. She puts in full effort into every play and game, while also making sure her teammates understand every new drill by helping them get better. When we asked Doyle how she felt about the game against Norwood she responded, “I thought the game was an even match, hard-fought game. It was a bummer we didn't score, but I am glad we played good.”
Captain Tara Duncan has been playing since 8th grade. She mainly plays right midfield, but sometimes will travel to other positions throughout the game, as she is extremely versatile. Duncan is not afraid to get hit in order to get the ball and make a play. She continuously makes great plays, passes, and assists and is always ready for action. When asked how the team has impacted her season she responded by saying, "This team made the season everything I hoped it would be, and so much more. I love the bonds we all have and that we are all so comfortable with each other.”
Captain Ally LaBrecque has also been playing field hockey since 8th grade. As a forward, LaBrecque makes plays throughout the entire field and is always putting herself on the line, whether it's to get the ball or to stop her opponent from getting too far up the field. LaBrecque helps people on and off the field with plays and making sure they understand what is fully expected of them throughout the game. When we asked how she felt about the way the team plays together she said, “I think the team did a great job this season and they have made it so fun.”
Senior Ella MacDougall has been playing goalie since her junior year. She took on the daunting task of becoming the starting goalie having never played the position before. She immediately made great plays and saves and continues to do so. The whole team recognizes that without MacDougall in net, they wouldn’t have made it far these past two seasons. When we asked how she feels on how the team works, overall, she stated, “I have become so close with so many people making it more fun while also working well together throughout the past two seasons.”
Senior Georgia Shumway has been playing forward for the DHS field hockey team since her junior year. She is always making plays and getting the ball and clearly proved to everyone that she deserved a spot on the team. When we asked how she felt about the Norwood game she said, “I felt really good even though we tied. I think we played really well.”
Senior Annemarie Messina has been playing for the Dedham field hockey team as a defender since 8th grade. She is always making people laugh (regardless if it's the appropriate time or not). Messina makes great defensive plays, whether it's traveling with the ball or making an assist. When we asked about how the team impacted her season, she replied by saying, “It has made the season better because we have made so many friendships."
Senior Bridie Looney has been playing for the DHS field hockey team as a forward since her sophomore. Looney has always been there for her teammates, whether it's making them laugh or helping them with a drill. Throughout the season, she has made great plays and passes. When asked how she feels about the team, overall, she responded by saying, “I think the team works really well together and I love the underclassman to death.”
Senior Lizzy Reynolds has been playing field hockey since 8th grade year. Throughout the season, she has made impressive plays, whether it's making sure the other team doesn't get the ball, or getting the ball herself. Reynolds always makes sure to work hard during the season and at practices, while also making sure that she focuses on her skills. When asked how she felt about the game against Norwood, she said, “ I feel like it was a good game, but we deserve a W."
Hannah Kane is another senior that has been playing field hockey in Dedham since 8th. A forward, Kane has always made sure her teammates understand a drill. She's also known for making exceptional plays on the field. When we asked Kane how she felt about the team, overall, she responded by saying, “Everyone one the team played really well together, and everyone has been super supportive of one another.”
Senior Emily O'Neill has been playing for the field hockey team for the past five years. She believes the team gave it their all throughout the season. O’Neill worked hard to prove herself. She is always working on getting the ball and making successfull passes. When asked how she felt about the team, overall, she said, “My teammates are the best part of the game.”
Senior Kathleen DeWinter has been playing on the DHS field hockey team as a right inner forward since her 8th grade year. DeWinter makes plays throughout the entire field, whether it's passing or carrying the ball up the field to help her teammates score a goal. When we asked the DeWinter how she felt the game against Norwood went, she said, “I feel like the game went very well. Everyone played hard and put in 100% effort down to the very last second.”
Senior Theresa Stronach has been playing field hockey as a defender since 8th grade. She has made memorable plays and continues to lead on and off the field. Stronach makes it a point to constantly improve her skills, while also helping her teammates understand the drills. Stronach would love to play club in college. When we asked how she thinks the team works together, overall, she observed, “We have a great team. We all really like being around each other. I think this atmosphere of the field makes us a stronger team on the field. We all work each other's strength on the field and help each other out.”
