It has occurred to us (Gen Z students) that many people in the building (Millennials, Gen Xers, and Boomers) have no idea what we're saying to each other half-the-time, so we decided to create a glossary of our vernacular as a helpful resource.
Behold the Gen Z Glossary.
67 – Essentially means nothing; a number that's referenced in the song "Doot Doot" by Skrilla. **Dictionary.com recently announced it has chosen "67" — pronounced "six seven," as its 2025 Word of the Year**
Ate – When someone does something perfectly, like a fit or performance. (You ate that outfit).
Baddie - Someone that's really attractive.
Baka - Baka is a Japanese word that means “crazy,” “foolish.” Among friends, siblings, or couples, however, it often functions as playful teasing—more like "silly" or "you dummy" rather than a serious insult.
Bet – Basically means okay or yeah, for sure; agreeing to something; another way to say yes or absolutely.
Bruh – The universal reaction word for anything surprising, dumb, or annoying.
Bruh moment – A situation that’s so dumb you just gotta say “bruh.”
Bussin’ – Super good, usually about food.
Cap – A lie. If someone’s capping, they’re not telling the truth.
Chips – When something is bad. (That sports team is chips.)
Chopped - Ugly.
Clock it - Hyping someone up for proving someone else wrong.
Cook – To do really well at something. (He’s cooking in that game.)
Cooked – When someone’s tired, done for, or messed up bad.
Dead/Weak – When something’s so funny or ridiculous. (I'm dead or I'm weak.)
Delulu – Short for delusional; someone living in their own world.
Diced- Even uglier than "chopped."
Drip – Someone’s outfit or style; their fashion is on point.
Fanum Tax – When your friend takes your goods/foods without asking.
Fire - When something is awesome.
GOAT- Greatest. Of. All. Time. (You are so goated at basketball)
Go off – To hype someone up; to go hard at something.
Goofy Ahh – A funny way to say someone’s acting dumb or silly.
Highkey – The opposite of lowkey; you’re not hiding it.
Hip - To agree with something or to know something. (Kevin: Let's get Chipotle. Davi: I'm hip.)
Huzz - A romantic interest; a crush.
Ick- A minor, awkward interaction that can cause you to stop liking someone.
It’s giving – Used to describe a vibe. (It’s giving the main character.)
L – A loss; something bad or embarrassing.
Lowkey – Kinda, but not too much. (I lowkey like it.)
Main character – Someone who tries to stand out; attention seeking.
Mid – Average; not good, but not bad either.
No cap – For real; not lying.
NPC – Someone who acts weird or basic; no personality.
Rizz – Short for charisma; how smooth you are when flirting.
Slay – To kill it, to look or do something perfectly.
Sussy – Suspicious, sketchy, or acting weird.
Touch grass – Go outside; get off your phone; get offline; have a reality check.
Unc – Someone who is old and out of touch.
Valid – Something that makes sense or is approved of.
W – A win; something great or a good moment.
