Melty, a gourmet sandwich franchise, had its grand opening in Dedham on September 27th. Melty has a variety of meals, including grilled cheeses, burgers, soups, salads, and chicken sandwiches. Additionally, they have a dessert menu that includes funnel cake, a banana foster sandwich, and a brookie.
The grand opening of Melty was highly anticipated, as signs were posted months in advance. And although we had been waiting for months, the sandwich shop was worth the wait!
Derek McGary: I ordered the Four Cheese Grilled Cheese and Tater Tots. The Four Cheese consisted of a blend of provolone, fontina, havarti, and cheddar cheese. The tots were seasoned and crunchy, but the portion size was quite small. There were roughly 20 tots in the serving for the price of 4 dollars. The cost should have been a little less for the amount that was given, in my opinion. Regardless, the grilled cheese was reasonably priced at 6 dollars. It was served on white bread, buttered, and toasted to perfection. Furthermore, each sandwich comes with a choice of sauce. I chose Melty Sauce, which was a thick white sauce with notes of pickles which I did not enjoy. I decided to get the Strawberry Lemonade which had a tangy zing to it. It was super tasty, but again expensive, priced at 4 dollars for a small. Additionally, there is a refill fee for $1.50. It is frustrating to have to pay high prices for the drinks, and next time I would think twice about purchasing one.
Ava Finn: I ordered the Turkey Bacon Grilled Cheese and the Loaded Tater Tots. The Turkey Bacon sandwich included aged cheddar cheese, creamy havarti, roasted turkey, and crispy bacon. The Loaded Tots were topped with melted cheese, bacon, and scallions. The Tots were very crispy and very rich and filling. The portions on the tots were small, but paired with the grilled cheese, it was still filling. The tots were a little overpriced at around five dollars because of the smaller portions. The grilled cheese was around eleven dollars, which reasonably priced because of the freshness of the ingredients included in the meal. The bread was buttered and toasted where the outside was crispy and the inside was still soft. As for sauce, I decided to try both the fry sauce and the chipotle mayo. The fry sauce was a thin pink and red sauce that had hints of mayo and ketchup. The chipotle mayo was also very good and had a good kick to it that paired well with both the grilled cheese and tater tots. I also got the pink lemonade that was extremely good- that was both sweet and a little sour.
Melty is a great addition to the many restaurants in Dedham. It's the perfect spot for when you have the craving for a crispy, melty, grilled cheese or a savory sandwich!
