Massachusetts gubernatorial candidates Geoff Diehl and Maura Healey.
Massachusetts recently held statewide primary elections. In a hotly contested Republican primary, the Trump-backed candidate Geoff Diehl pulled out a victory, garnering 148,455 votes (55.6%), while his opponent Chris Doughty received 118,674 votes (44.4%).
In the Democratic gubernatorial primary, Maura Healey received 630,173 votes (85.6%), which was enough for a decisive victory over her primary challenger Sonia Chang-Diaz, who received 106,126 votes (14.4%).
The Democratic primary saw Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll victorious, winning 328,192 votes (46.8%) to her opponent Eric Lesser’s 227,578 votes (32.5%). Tami Gouveia finished in third-place with 144,966 votes (20.7%).
In the Republican primary for Lieutenant Governor, Leah Cole Allen won 129,618 votes (52.4%), while her opponent Kate Campanale received 117,957 votes (47.6%).
Democrat Andrea Campbell received 360,115 votes (50.2%) in her run against Shannon Liss-Riordan for Attorney General, who received 244,345 votes (34.1%).
Geoff Diehl is now the Republican nominee for Governor of Massachusetts. His policies include, supporting economic development, improving education, revolutionizing energy, protecting the environment, imposing fiscal discipline, defending freedom, promoting government accountability, expanding housing, upgrading infrastructure, and ensuring public safety.
Maura Healey is the Democratic nominee. Her policies include, establishing a child tax credit, enacting criminal justice reform, investing in education, making it easier for people to stay in their homes, fighting for LGBTQ+ rights, working to make sure the Massachusetts transportation system is safe, reliable, and accessible throughout the state, working to improve the climate by creating good-paying jobs, protecting Commonwealth communities, and addressing the environmental injustices.
Massachusetts has elected moderate Republicans as governors in the past, including incumbent Charlie Baker. But Diehl, an election denier backed by Donald Trump, who claims the candidate would “rule the state with an iron fist,” can hardly be labeled a moderate.
