DHS Junior Sean Leahy placed second at the Division II State Swim and Dive Meet held at Boston University on February 22nd. 

Finishing with a total score of 487.65 for 11 dives, Leahy not only attained a personal best record for himself, he was also awarded TVL Diver of the Year. 

When asked by the Mirror about these achievements, Leahy said, “I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I started diving freshman year. All I knew was I would be able to flip, and I liked flipping. To win a title at a State competition is something I never expected for myself. Even though I placed second last year and didn’t officially move up in the rankings, I know my score was higher, and I can see my own improvement.” 

To qualify for States, a diver must score at least a 190.00 at two separate meets. Leahy received a qualifying score for this competition at each meet of the season! His highest six-dive score of the year reached 299.85. 

He made 17 out of 20 available points for his team at States. 

“It has been a pleasure seeing Sean excel in this sport that was so new to him when he joined," said coach Kathy Megan.  "I always encourage students to try something new—you never know! Sean’s natural ability and fearlessness make him the perfect diver. He is always striving to learn new dives and challenge himself because the harder the dive, the more points you can earn. Going into his senior year, I know Sean will show up next season ready to take on even greater challenges.  A huge shoutout to DHS dive coach Maura O’Brien, who continues to turn first-time divers into champions!”
