Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is an entertaining and humorous mystery adventure. Released on Netflix in December, the film highlights how people are not who they seem to be and that old friendships should stay in the past.
Miles Bron (Edward Norton), a tech billionaire and founder of technology company Alpha, has a reunion every year with his friends and this year he takes them to his private island in Greece, the Glass Onion. He invites Birdie Jay (Kate Hudson) a controversial fashion icon, Alpha head scientist Lionel Toussaint (Leslie Odom Jr.), a men's rights streamer Duke Cody (Dave Bautista), Connecticut governor Claire Debella (Kathryn Hahn), and Alpha co-founder Cassandra “Andi” Brand(Janelle Monáe). Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is a famous detective who was also invited on the trip to the Glass Onion, but it is unknown who invites him until the end. Along with his original friends and Blanc, Birdie’s assistant, Peg (Jessica Henwick), and Duke’s girlfriend, Whiskey (Madelyn Cline), both join the vacation. This reunion is different from the others because it has a theme, a murder mystery.
Once the group arrives at the dock to board the ship, Miles is confused as to why Blanc is there but lets him on anyway, thinking that one of his friends invited him as a joke. Blanc is suspicious of all of the people he is with because he does not know any of them and all have foggy pasts. The first night they arrived they had a dinner that would kick off the murder mystery that would last the whole weekend. Bron starts off by stabbing himself with an arrow shot from across the room. Blanc being the famous detective that he is, figured out the murder as soon as it happened. It seemed as though the whole point of the weekend was ruined because the mystery was already solved.
The group of guests moved into the living area to catch up with each other on their lives. Andi gets into an argument with the group because of her harsh past with Bron and the rest of the group and storms off. They were talking as a group when suddenly Duke collapses and dies after drinking from Bron’s glass. They also find Duke’s pistol missing and the next thing they know the power goes out and everyone gets terrified of what is to come. Blanc believed that everyone should just stay all together in the living room, but they dispersed all throughout the building. Some people started to grab weapons to defend themselves because they had no clue as to why Duke died and why the power went out. Blanc then finds Andi outside of the entrance of the main building, but suddenly there is an undiscovered shooter hidden in the dark. This person shoots Andi through the glass which kills her after the impact of the shot. The group hears the gunshot and immediately rushes outside to see what happened. They are all shocked and distraught and Blanc announces that he has solved her murder. He gathers them in the living room to discuss how she died and who did it and reveals the truth about Bron and the rest of the group.
Glass Onion is a sequel to the original Knives Out Movie that was released in 2019. There's no plot connection to the first film other than the character of Blanc, the famous murder detective.
All of the characters are different in their own ways, which adds a satisfying sense of variety to the experience. The comic relief of Birdie and Whiskey is a credit to the film. The cast, in general, is exceptionally good. There's one scene at the end of the movie where Andi is expressing her emotions. The acting is amazing.
Glass Onion's suspense is the real fun. It's sure to captivate your attention!
