A deeply heartfelt film, We Live In Time, directed by John Crowley, was released in theaters last month to receptive audiences who connected emotionally with its story and characters.
The film follows the eventful love story of Almut (Florence Pugh) and Tobias (Andrew Garfield). In the very first scene, we learn of Almut’s cancer diagnosis. From there we are taken through the couple's shared and individual journeys.
Almut, a former figure skater, is now head-chef of her own upscale restaurant. She is informed that her cancer has progressed to stage three and that chemotherapy is needed. Ultimately, she makes the difficult decision to stop treatment, preferring instead to live an amazing six to eight months rather than spend it sick and in pain.
Almut carries on with her life, trying to make the most of the time she has left with her family and her life’s passion, cooking. This leads her to enter a cooking competition called Bocuse d'Or.
We Live in Time successfully deals with real life hardships that many couples and families face, such as dealing with a loved one's cancer diagnosis. However, it is the impeccable acting and chemistry of Pugh and Garfield that make this film work so well. But beware: it's a roller coaster ride of tears and laughter.
