The March Mindfulness volunteers!
The DHS Active Minds Club hosted its first March Mindfulness 3v3 Tournament last Friday, with over 20 volunteers and approximately 70 players participating.
The event was run by Club Presidents Jaydyn Corsetti and Megan McNamara and assisted by their adviser, Kathy Megan.
Inspired by March Madness, March Mindfulness aimed to blend basketball with the vital importance of mental health awareness. The tournament promoted a supportive environment that worked towards the greater purpose of raising awareness and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health.
DHS partnered with the KyleCares Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to funding teen mental health programs. All proceeds collected, whether through the signup fee or the 50/50 raffle, are going directly to teen mental health resources.
As for the event itself, the atmosphere was electric and can best be described as a combination of friendly competition and fundraising.
At each game, whichever team reached 11 points first advanced to the next round. There were some very close games and extremely skilled players but after a hard-fought game against “The Ballerz" (Sam Milligan, Jaden Tammaro, Lord Ofosu-Ampofo),” the team that took first place was “The Beauts,” who were each rewarded with a $50 visa gift card. Congratulations to Dr. Rouse, Finn Davis, Ryan Bayiates, and Julian Allison-Cardoso!
The Active Minds Club plans to make this tournament an annual event, continuously expanding its positive impact. This unique approach to fundraising demonstrates the powerful connection between sports and mental health awareness, leaving a positive impact on the Dedham community.
