DHS' Advanced Theater Class with their Attleboro host students.
For the first time in many years, the DHS Performing Arts Company entered into the METG Festival - a theater competition for Massachusetts drama students.
Before competing in the show at Attleboro High School on March 1st, supporters of the PAC were invited to see a preview here at DHS. Students showcased three one-act plays directed by Lindsey Soson and Neva Ventullo (tech).
Starring seniors Kam Molloy, Renee Saint-Amour, Sophie Bauman, Nelly Joes, and junior Jackie Luszcz, Kidney Island was an eerie dystopian thriller that kept viewers on the edge of their seats.
Molloy played the lead, a young rebel fighting against an oppressive government. He displayed exceptional acting skills, providing the audience with a compelling performance.
Saint-Amour served as narrator and comedic relief, putting on a magnificent performance. And to make it even more impressive, she did it all in roller skates!
The antagonist (Jones) gave a compelling portrayal of a tyrannical CEO specializing in the replication of human organs for the wealthy. Senior Sophie Bauman played Nelly’s rebellious teenage daughter, accurately capturing stereotypical teenage angst. Junior Jackie Luszcz also did a phenomenal job effectively scaring the audience by playing a gory ghost risen from the dead.
Although Kidney Island was the only one-act play that entered into the festival, the advanced theater production class taught by Lindsey Soson produced two others: Capsule and Trust Fall.
Starring Juniors Lily Conley, Maddie Cooke, and Katie O’Connor, Capsule portrayed a murder mystery among friends, while Trust Fall, with duo Sadie Croscup and Mary Kate Megan depicted an eerie tale of sisterly love, friendship, and betrayal.
The company was presented with a total of 5 awards: Renee Saint-Amour for acting, Jackie Luszcz for melody composition and acting, Soriti Tiglinidas for light design, and Jackie Monahan for her impressive costume design.
The PAC moved onto the semi-finals of the competition on March 15th at North Reading High School but did not advance in the competition.
Regardless, the PAC never fails to put on an amazing production. The effort and dedication of all the actors, directors, and tech is shown through their exceptional shows time and time again. Make sure to mark your calendars for the 4-5th of April when PAC stages their production of Chicago!
