DHS sports has exceeded expectations throughout the 2022-23 school year.
During the fall season, girls and boys soccer went all the way to States.
The field hockey team made it to playoffs.
It was girls hockey, however, that really stepped-up their game.
To start off their season, the girls won the NCDS Jambo Tournament, playing against teams in the Tri-Valley League. They then went 3-0 in their first three regular season games against Hopkinton, Westwood and Medway.
The girls ultimately racked-up a 15-4-2 record and were crowned Tri-Valley League Champions. They proved themselves against tough competitors, such as Westwood, Medway, Franklin and Medfield.
According to Ava Iantosca, who has been on the varsity team since 8th grade, the team's best game was the hard-fought battle against Westwood. The Marauders were up 2-0 for the majority of the game, but a tough penalty resulted in Westwood scoring twice. The entire third period went by without a goal until two minutes were remaining. Iantosca scored, cementing a 3-2 Dedham win.
The girls moved onward to the first round of playoffs, where they faced Braintree. At the start of the second period, Dedham was tied with Braintree, 1-1 . Then, with less than a minute left on the power play, freshman Adia Murphy tied up the game again, 2-2.
The battle continued due to the tenacity of sophomore goalie Lily Zahka, who propelled the girls into overtime. Iantosca struck again with an assist from senior Ella Macdougall with six minutes to go.
Next up were the reigning State Champions, Algonquin. Sadly, the Marauders fell 4-3 in overtime.
A fantastic season was had, nevertheless. Dedham is proud of their Tri-Valley League Champions.
