Packed crowds are a common sight at Snowport.
Snowport. A beloved spot in the bougie Seaport district of Boston that's filled with holiday cheer, delicious food, and cute shops, right?
WRONG.
Snowport actually consists of over priced foods, crowded areas, and horrible smells. Our first ever visit to this monstrosity was this past Friday, and, needless to say, we were unimpressed. Although very festive and beautiful, the negative aspects ruined our overall experience.
We went filled with loads of excitement to visit this beautiful attraction. Yet, we were quickly overwhelmed by the alarming number of people congregated. Granted, it was a Friday night, and we expected it to be crowded, but we were not expecting close to 200 people in such a small area. Even though there is an entrance line to supposedly keep the capacity at the “right” amount, every inch of Snowport was covered with people. The managers need to do a better job maintaining a comfortable capacity for all shoppers. It is impossible to enjoy your time when you can barely even look around, hip to hip with strangers.
Additionally, we found the food to be subpar. Whether paying $17 for a grilled cheese, $14 for a simple crepe, or even $9 for a small portion of elote corn, the food did not warrant the prices. The wait time for each vendor was about 15 minutes. The line took about seven minutes to get through for most shops, but the time it took for them to cook the food was even longer.
After waiting so long for mediocre food, we were left incredibly disappointed. Not to mention, the picnic tables set up for customers to sit had absolutely no space left. Each seat, and section of every table was taken; therefore, we were left to stand within the crowds to eat our meals instead of enjoying them in a sit down manner as we had hoped.
You will find many vendors selling an array of different cheeses, but these cheeses gave off an odor that made a majority of the snowport smell.
Our experience wasn’t a complete disaster, though. There were a lot of different shops with cute trinkets such as stuffed animals, holiday sweaters, boston apparel, artwork, and “fine” jewelry. Although the items sold within these vendors tend to be a little pricey, they are still fun to browse and look around. But, unfortunately for us, we could not afford any of the items, as most of them were priced at least $40.
Based on the expectations set by cute Instagram pictures and rave reviews online, our expectations were not met. We hoped for a fun time out in Boston. Instead we were met with an extremely stressful environment.
It will come as no surprise that we advise staying away from Snowport if you are a Boston regular, and especially if you don't do well in dense crowds. However, there's always the chance that your experience could be different than ours.
