The Dedham Track and Field 25-26 season was truly unforgettable, driven by dedication, relentless practice, and incredible team spirit. The journey marked by personal bests, thrilling victories, and collective drive has defined their remarkable success on the track.
The girls team has shown significant improvement since last year's winter season. They finished the season 2-3, compared with not winning a single meet last year. Despite the small team, the sprinters and jumpers showed exceptional effort, earning the team many points and helping it win important meets against Norwood and Ashland.
Nevertheless, the distance team’s improvement should not go unnoticed. With only six girls, they had an incredible season, earning significant PRs and shaving up to 20 seconds off their race times.
The TVL showcase on January 31st had the Girls in fourth place with athletes including all three hurdles athletes; Juniors Julie Maclean and Amariah Montaque, and Sophomore Kaylee Nunes made the finals, earning points to help their team. Additionally, both Montaque and Nunes also made the 55-meter dash finals, with Montaque placing first.
Sophomore Ally Finkle finished her two miles in third place with a time of 12:15. Freshman Lilian Ojuolape made the shot put finals and placed eighth after it was her first year on the track and field team.
Many records have been broken on the Girls’ track and field team this year, with TVL MVP Montaque gaining the record by more than three inches in the long jump, with a length of 17 '4". Finkle also ran the fastest Indoor mile time with 5:30.66. The girls' 4x200 teams, including Molly Hernon, Amairah Montaque, Kaylee Nunes, and Julia Solorzano, are just .2 seconds away from the school record and are looking for the opportunity to beat it at States.
On the boys' side, they demonstrated dominance across both track and non-running events, setting personal records and winning notable races to help their teams. Even though the Boys track and field team lost many vital seniors last year, the team persevered by getting three wins against the TVL large schools. The team has been exceptionally strong in every category of events, both on and off the track
Junior Henry Humphrey was the first runner on the track and won first in his heat during the mile with a time of 4:34- shaving 12 seconds off of his time before. Levon Roussin ran the second fastest 1,000-meter time in Dedham history and assisted in the all-Junior 4x400 with runners Scheider Tertulien, Ryan Dowdall, and Henry Humphrey. Niko Tiglianidis won third in the 55-meter hurdles with a personal record time of 6.75.
In addition, Juniors Townsend Roussin and Jeremy Chang earned 13 points for their team by placing second and fourth in the two-mile. Junior Bradley Bertrand and Senior Amin Roumali threw the shot, putting Bertrand in third and Roumali in fourth.
As the Winter season comes to an end, States will be occurring on February 13th at the Track at New Balance in Boston. 25 track athletes will participate in various events, including distance, sprint, field, and relay events.
