A pro-Palestinian protest held on the campus of MIT last April.

Hundreds of colleges and universities across the world have held pro-Palestinian protests since last October.

Encampments have been set up at over 100 college campuses worldwide, with students occupying buildings and leading protests. On April 17, students at Columbia University set up one such encampment. University administration ultimately took action by asking police to clear the encampment. 2,800 protestors were arrested.

Students voicing their postitions at public universities have largely been protected under the First Amendment. Students at private universities, however, have faced more restrictions.

Much of the protesting has been aimed at universities giving money to companies profiting from the Israel-Hamas war.

The intensity of protests have led many universities to cancel their graduation ceremonies.

There have not been protests this extreme in nature in the U.S. since the Vietnam War.
