The Dedham High Varsity Baseball team honored their 11 seniors on May 24th after a fantastic 4-3 win over Millis.
The Marauders fought hard throughout the entire game and showed how much they wanted a win on Senior Night. After pulling it off, the senior players received flowers from their families and gifts from their teammates.
The boys went into this season with everything they had and managed to win a TVL title. The team was excited about the victory, but were just as excited to recognize the eleven seniors and the heart and soul they put into their games and practices.
Getting his start in elementary school, captain, pitcher, and 3rd baseman Julio Gonzalez has been playing with the DHS baseball team since his freshman year. He continues to get better after every play and error. When asked how he felt about the win, he said, “It was great to win on Senior Night because we lost last year's Senior Night game.”
Captain Patrick Lyman has been playing baseball for Dedham High School since his freshman year and continues to show his skill with every game. He has been playing sports since he was five years old and has played on a variety of club and town teams throughout his career. When asked how he felt about the season, so far, Lyman said, “I feel good about the Senior Night win and winning the TVL small. It was a great night and it'll always stay with me.”
Captain, catcher, and pitcher John Doyle has been playing for DHS baseball since his sophomore year and continues to show the grit and determination every game. Doyle has been playing baseball since he started T-ball and has played on a variety of teams. When asked how he has felt about the season, he said, “It's been a good season with the team playing well and winning the league again. A lot of people contribute to every game.”
Jacob Laprade has been playing for the DHS baseball team since his freshman year of high school. He started playing baseball in elementary school and he is a relief pitcher. He has played on a variety of teams including JV and Varsity baseball. When asked about the season, Laprade said, “The team has created a fun environment to be a part of outside of school.”
Center fielder and pitcher Finn McNamara has been playing DHS baseball since his freshman year. Since T-ball, McNamara has played on many different teams throughout his baseball career and continues to get better after every play. When asked how he felt about the season, he said, “The team had created a fun environment to be around.”
Ian Stapleton has been playing DHS baseball since his freshman year. Stapleton started playing the sport in elementary school and has played on multiple teams along the way. He is a first baseman who continuously sharpens his skills. When asked about the season, Stapleton said, “The season has been awesome were playing very well and I hope to have a deep playoff run.”
Dylan Donahue has also been playing with the DHS varsity baseball team since his Freshman year. Dylan began playing baseball during T-Ball and is a right fielder. He continues to make key plays, along with proving to be a top player even when up against towns that hit to right field constantly. When asked about how he felt about the season, he said, “The team has been great. We've grown a lot and become closer as a group.”
Left fielder and pitcher Senior Stephen Bear has been playing for the DHS since his freshman year and has been playing baseball since elementary school. Bear will always get down in the dirt and go for the play. When asked about how the season affected his senior season, Bear stated, “We have a goal in mind and plan to make a good run in the tournament, but the season has been fun and has made my senior season very good.”
Senior Matthew Lombardi has been playing DHS baseball for four years. He has proven to be an outstanding athlete and a fantastic leader for many of the younger kids. He has been playing baseball since he was a little and has mastered his skills with every game and practice. Lombardi has been a mentor to the younger players and is a reliable player in the sense that if the ball goes to him, he will make the play.
Senior Matthew Pouliot has been playing baseball since he was a child and has been playing with the Marauders for the past four years. Pouliot continues to prove that he is a great teammate and a great player. Almost halfway through the season he suffered an injury to the face that sat him out for a few games. He was able to make a full recovery and return to the team to continue his successful senior season.
Senior Victor Campero has proven himself throughout the past years on the DHS baseball team to have great athletic skills and to stick by his teammates throughout the season. Campero started playing baseball at a young age and continues to build up confidence on the field.
