The DHS boys and girls hockey teams rallied behind former Oakdale Elementary School teacher Christine Stec on December 7th for "Stec Night."

Also the mother to two Dedham high players: Dylan, a player on the boys team and senior at DHS, and Lexi, an alumnus of the girls team, Stec is battling pancreatic cancer.

Attendance was high for the doubleheader. The stands were filled with spectators wearing  purple attire to show support for Christine.

At the start of the event, both teams lined up to make a tunnel for Stec, which led her onto the ice. Senior Captains Connie Doyle and Kevin Cronin were her escorts. Stec was then given the honor of dropping the puck for the first face-off, which featured her son Dylan.

The boy's varsity played a strong fought game throughout all three periods ending with an 8-0 win over Bellingham. Goals were scored by Ryan Laughter (who had a hat trick), Colin Ward, Nick Moreno, Kevin Cronin, and Sam MacDougall.

Goalies Noel Adams and Eamonn Stephens both made impressive saves for a shutout.

Following the boys' success, the girls also pulled through for Stec. The Marauder girls squared off against Franklin, a team they had recently lost to earlier in the season. Determined for redemption, the girls played an exceptional game.

Juniors Ava Iantosca and Caroline Demeo were able to put two to the back of Franklin's net. Sophomore Mary Stronach also scored an empty netter to end the game.

The 3-1 win for the girls not only showed their determination to get back at Franklin, but they were reminded that they played for a bigger purpose.
