A new security camera has been installed in the lower B-Wing.
DHS has begun the process of installing a number of new security cameras around the school over the past few weeks as part of a district-wide security overhaul.
“Cameras will be put throughout the building in all kind of public spaces,” said DHS Principal Jim Forrest. They are expected to be installed mostly in hallways and kept out of classrooms.
Forrest noted that these cameras are unrelated to the recent bathroom closures. However, he expressed hopes that they will play a role in preventing future bathroom closures.
Most students have understood the need for increased security in the school.
One student said, “I guess they are needed because maybe a fight could happen in front of one of the cameras, and, also, staff can see where students are going.”
“I think as long as they’re not used egregiously, they’re fine,” said another.
These installations were preceded by the installation of exterior security cameras around the district as part of the same security overhaul.
“We’re hoping they’ll be done by April Vacation,” Forrest clarified when asked about the expected timeline for these installations.
