Noah Smadi
Noah Smadi's high school journey is defined not by a single moment, but by steady growth, curiosity, and a willingness to challenge himself both inside and outside the classroom. From his first steps into high school to his final year, he embraced each stage with a balance of determination and openness that shaped both his academic and personal path.
As a freshman, Smadi was struck by the newfound freedom high school offered. With more choices in his classes and activities, he quickly found ways to get involved, joining both the soccer team and the debate club. These early experiences helped him build connections and discover what interested him most. Some of his favorite memories from that year came from his time in Dr. Rouse’s class, where humor, meaningful lessons, and friendships made a lasting impression.
Sophomore year brought new challenges and opportunities. Smadi expanded his interests by joining the track and field team and the Bio-Med Club, while also starting a service project outside of school. Academically, he took on his first AP class, adjusting to a more rigorous workload and deeper content. Despite the challenges, he found inspiration in his chemistry class with Mr. Norrman, which strengthened his interest in science.
By junior year, Smadi had developed a clearer sense of his academic strengths, even if he had not yet fully decided on a future path. He knew he was drawn to STEM, but the year itself tested him with its heavy workload and increased responsibilities. Courses like Precalculus with Mr. Lanoie and AP chemistry with Mr. Norrman stood out, both for their rigor and the way they pushed him to think critically and grow as a student. Junior year proved to be the most demanding, but it also laid the foundation for his confidence and resilience.
Senior year marked a turning point. While the pressures of college applications added a new layer of responsibility, Smadi found it to be the most enjoyable year of his high school experience. The application process, though stressful at times, became an opportunity for reflection—prompting him to think deeply about who he is and who he wants to become. He especially enjoyed AP Calculus with Ms. Holloran, a class that captured his interest and rounded out his academic experience.
Throughout high school, Smadi’s passions remained consistent. His love of sports, particularly soccer and track, complemented his strong interest in math and science. These interests ultimately guided him to pursue engineering at Northeastern University on an exploratory track. Drawn to problem-solving and the interdisciplinary nature of engineering, he chose a path that reflects both his curiosity and his analytical mindset.
Smadi’s strengths lie in his ability to learn quickly, stay organized, and remain determined in the face of challenges. Whether taking on a demanding course like AP Physics—the “hardest class he took”—or balancing academics with extracurricular commitments, he approached each obstacle with persistence. At the same time, he recognizes that growth is ongoing and wishes he had taken on more large-scale leadership roles during high school.
Along the way, Smadi found motivation in many places: his family, friends, teachers, and even art and media. Among these influences, Dr. Rouse stands out as a particularly impactful mentor—someone who combined humor with insight and consistently encouraged his students to think beyond the classroom.
As he prepares for the next chapter, Smadi plans to spend the summer relaxing, connecting with family and friends, and traveling to Morocco before beginning college. His journey reflects not only academic achievement but also thoughtful self-discovery.
To underclassmen, Smadi offers simple but meaningful advice: build strong study habits, form genuine relationships, and get involved in activities that truly interest you. Most importantly, pursue what you enjoy—not what you think will look good to others.
Noah Smadi's high school experience is a testament to steady growth, intellectual curiosity, and quiet determination. As salutatorian, he represents not only academic excellence but also the value of approaching each opportunity with purpose and authenticity.
