Israeli military carried out a series of airstrikes last Friday, primarily targeting Hezbollah in Lebanon.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed hitting various locations, including a key tunnel used by Hezbollah to transfer weapons from Syria into Lebanon. This tunnel was said to facilitate large-scale weapon storage underground. Additionally, Israel targeted infrastructure at the Masnaa border crossing between Lebanon and Syria that led to the closure of this crucial route.
More than 300,000 people had fled Lebanon through this crossing due to ongoing violence.
The strikes came amid heightened tensions as Israel expanded its operations in Lebanon, urging civilians in over 90 villages in southern Lebanon to evacuate.
In Beirut, Israel also hit Hezbollah's intelligence unit, and there were accusations that Israel deliberately targeted civilian areas, resulting in several casualties, including emergency workers.
This escalation is part of the broader conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, which has intensified since the war between Israel and Hamas began in October of 2023.
Israel claims that Hezbollah has been using Lebanon and Syria to transfer military equipment, making these border regions critical battlegrounds in the ongoing conflict.
