Lindsay Soson joined the fine arts department this fall.
Mirror: What classes do you teach?
Soson: Chorus, Acting 1, Acting 3, Music Connections, and Music Production.
M: How long have you been teaching?
S: 10 years.
M: Where have you taught before?
S: Most recently, I taught at Providence Country Day School, and I’ve also taught at the Tobin K-8 School and Pentucket Regional High School.
M: Where are you from?
S: Norwalk, CT
M: Where did you go to college?
S: Wesleyan University, and then Emerson College for graduate school.
M: What jobs did you have before teaching?
S: I started teaching right after college, but took a five year hiatus in the middle. During that time I managed the public programs and planned donor events at the MFA, Boston, and worked in fundraising and event planning at the American Repertory Theater.
M: What do you like most about teaching?
S: I like how interactive it is, and that it’s never boring.
M: What inspired you to become a teacher?
S: As a teenager, I babysat and coached gymnastics at my local YMCA, so working with young people as a career was a natural fit.
M: What sets you apart from other teachers?
S: Probably the silly things I do in front of my students in acting classes.
M: What is your greatest accomplishment?
S: On a personal level, raising my son who is now a year and a half. Professionally, a production of Urinetown I directed.
M: What are your hobbies?
S: Going to the beach, yoga, playing with my toddler.
M: What are your pet peeves in the classroom?
S: Rudeness or disrespect toward others.
M: What is your favorite movie?
S: I don’t have one favorite, but some older movies that I like are Fried Green Tomatoes, A League of Their Own, and Mr. Holland’s Opus.
M: What is your favorite book?
S: A recent favorite is Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng.
M: Favorite quote?
S: “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” -Eleanor Roosevelt
M: What was the last album you downloaded?
S: An Amos Lee album a while ago.
M: Will you be involved in any extracurricular activities?
S: Yes, I’ll be involved with PAC - first up I’m directing the fall play.
M: Favorite apps?
S: This is probably boring, but the weather app :)
M: Dunks or Starbucks?
S: Starbucks.
M: How do you take your coffee?
S: Milk and one sugar.
M: What do you like about Dedham?
S: I like how friendly and enthusiastic the students are, and the commitment and passion from the students in the theater program.
Fiona McCafferty, class of 2025, is a Features Reporter for the Dedham Mirror. She also competes as a marauder on the field hockey, swim, and lacrosse teams. In her free time she enjoys going to the beach, skiing and traveling with her friends and family.
