DHS hosted students and teachers from Alicante, Spain.

DHS welcomed ten students and two teachers from the Colegio CEU Jesús María in Alicante, Spain on October 11th.

The exchange students shadowed their student hosts throughout the school day and after, experiencing DHS classes and extracurricular activities, such as clubs and sports games. They also took a tour of Boston and a trip to Canobie Lake Park.

The Mirror asked one exchange student, Cristina Benito Pastor, about her time in Dedham.

Mirror: What was the biggest difference between DHS and your school in Spain?

Cristina: In Spain, we go to school from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Then we have a break of two hours. We can go home during this time. We finish school at 5 p.m. Also, we are in the same classroom for the entire day; it’s just the teachers who change classes.

M:  What did you enjoy the most about visiting Dedham?

C: I liked the football match, because it was different. I also liked seeing the cheerleaders.

M: What did you learn from your time in Dedham?

C: I learned what time people in Dedham eat their meals and how school sports change depending on the time of year.

M: What was your favorite activity?

C: I liked all of the activities, but I really liked the haunted houses at Canobie Lake Park and meeting new people when I went to sports games.

The group spent one week in Dedham before heading to New York.

Come April vacation, the student hosts will become exchange students, themselves, when they, in turn, visit Alicante to experience Spanish culture and everyday life.
