Meet Avery O’Connor. She is a senior at DHS and captain of the girls basketball team. Avery has dedicated most of her life to playing basketball, starting Dedham youth at a very young age and joining her club team, Bay State Jaguars AAU, in fourth grade. All of her hard work throughout the years has paid off as she committed to play Division 1 basketball at the University of New Hampshire in February of 2021.
“I’m super excited to attend UNH," O'Connor said. "I can’t wait to excel at my sport in a supportive environment with other players who also want to achieve the same goals.”
Avery has been a star for the DHS girls basketball team since she was a freshman. She is currently averaging 25 points per game. Even though there was a shortened Covid season her Junior year, Avery made her 1000th point on December 17th in a game against Medway with an amazing three point shot.
“I was very relieved and excited to get my 1000th point," O'Connor enthused. "When my dad was playing basketball at Dedham High, he also scored 1000 points. I have scored more than him now and I am trying to get the most points ever in Dedham High basketball history”.
The Mirror congratulates Avery on her many accomplishments.
