The LA Dodgers celebrate after their 4-1 World Series win against the New York Yankees.
The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees in game five last Wednesday to win the World Series. The Dodgers finished 98-64 in the regular season--the best record of any team this season.
The Dodgers started round one of playoffs against the San Diego Padres and won three out of the five games of the National League division series in order to advance. In round two, the Dodgers faced the New York Mets where they would go on to in six games (4-2).
Game one began on October 25th, in Dodger Stadium L.A. After a long ten innings, the Dodgers came home with the win (6-3)
Game two kicked off on October 26th, In Dodger Stadium L.A. After nine innings, the Dodgers secured the win once again (4-2). Unfortunately, in the seventh inning, star Dodger player Shohei Ohtani indicated that he hurt his shoulder from sliding. At the time it was unclear just how bad the injury was. Many fans wondered if he would return for the rest of the series and if the LAD could still win.
Game three, October 27th, at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx nearly mirrored the game from the night before with the Dodgers winning (4-2). Luckily, Ohtani’s injury was only a subluxation and was cleared to play the rest of the series under supervision.
Game four, on October 29th in Yankee Stadium allowed the Yankees to begin the comeback. They won e11-4 in nine innings.
Game five, on October 30th, closed out the series with the Dodgers winning 7-6. The Yankees were originally up five to zero; however, in the fifth inning the Dodgers scored five home runs in order to tie the game. The Yankees made three big mistakes and the Dodgers capitalized on the opportunity.
The Dodgers finally sealed their first World Series win after a full 162-game season since 1988.
