DHS junior AJ Pinet has been recognized by the Boston Globe for his outstanding achievements on the gridiron last fall.

Pinet led  the Dedham Marauders football program to a 7-4 record, losing only one game on the road. With Pinet playing on both sides of the ball, the Marauders season was much more impressive comparative to previous years.

The team’s offense, led by Pinet and senior Gianni Gasbarro, scored 297 total points (greatest number of points scored in the TVL small) on the season. This paired with the defense strengthened by Pinet only allowed 151 points (2nd least amount of points let up in the TVL small) and allowed Dedham Football to make the playoffs.

The team went on to the MIAA tournament as the 4th seed, starting with a smashing victory over Apponequet Regional High School (30-6) until the Marauders lost to the Danvers Falcons in the second round of the tournament. However, they only allowed 10 points in the 48 minute match.

Pinet’s season ended with an impressive 1,780 all purpose yards and 20 touchdowns, almost breaking franchise records. For his performance, the Boston Globe recognized him with their All-Scholastic Award, an honor  bestowed upon only one athlete at each position in each MIAA football division. Pinet was also awarded Co-MVP and TVL Co-Offensive MVP.

“I’m really thankful for this award and that my season was recognized for what it was," said Pinet. "I owe my success to the team around me, especially the O-line for giving me the opportunity to be great.”

Pinet intends to improve upon this season in his next and final year at Dedham High, allowing him to possibly break the record for all-season yards.
