Seniors Ben Pfeiffer and Kailey Walker hosting the 17th Annual Media Film Festival & Scully Awards.
DHS held its 17th Annual Media Film Festival and Scully Awards last Wednesday.
The auditorium and lobby received a glamorous makeover, including a bake sale and Photo Booth. Once the show started, seniors Kailey Walker and Ben Pfeiffer took the stage as hosts for the night's events.
Adorning the pamphlets handed to guests at the entrance is the winner of this year's Scully Awards logo design contest, created by host Ben Pfeiffer. Along with being designer of the logo, Pfeiffer received a total of eight nominations across the ten categories. His music video for Watercolor Eyes by Lana Del Rey was the winner of both Best Music Video and Best Credit Bed. However, Pfeiffer wasn’t the only person to accept multiple awards this evening, Christopher MacDougall and Hilen Miralda were both awarded three Scully’s each.
Contrary to how it may seem, these three students didn’t completely steal the show. There were 53 nominees this year, with eleven winners. On top of that, the presenters for each category and award were DHS students. All the students involved worked hard over the last few years to get here and watch their projects in the auditorium on-screen. It’s an honor to be entered for consideration for a Scully, and even more so to be nominated. The judges panel includes Dedham teachers and staff, members of the film/television industry, and many more.
Attendees viewed a plethora of different styles of videos over the course of the event. Some notable genres were documentaries, creative visual poems , cooking shows, music videos and mock-commercials. All nominee’s videos were shown in either shortened 2-minute form (for longer films) or in their entirety.
This celebration of Dedham High’s most creative students was the product of much hard work and collaboration between teachers, students, staff and parents. Many thanks to everybody who made the night possible- especially the event organizer, Ms. Scully-Rose. Congratulations should also be given to the winners, every one of them deserving of their award and the recognition they earned.
