The Huskies celebrate their historic Beanpot Tournament victories.

Over the past two months, the annual Women’s and Men's Beanpot games have taken place in Boston. The Beanpot is a competition amongst the Harvard, Northeastern, Boston College, and Boston University hockey teams. These teams all battle each other in a series of four games for the champion's title.

The games this year were extremely competitive with some very close scores. The Beanpot has always been an extremely popular tournament, but this year it was even more special!

The 45th women’s Beanpot was an extremely historic event. It was marked as the first Women's beanpot games to be played at the TD Garden propelling a massive turnout of 10,633 fans at the championship game. This game was the largest women’s hockey crowd in Boston history.

For the semifinal games, Boston University faced Boston College and Northeastern faced Harvard. These two games were held at Harvard’s arena. The Boston University Terriers defeated the Boston College Eagles after an exciting 3-3 matchup. The result of the game was decided in a shootout where Boston University took the win, their first win over rival Boston College in more than three years. Next up, Northeastern also took a thrilling win over Harvard. Northeastern got an early goal, which was all they needed to walk away with a 1-0 win.

On January 23th, the consolation and championship games were held. For the consolation game, Harvard faced Boston College and earned themselves a hard fought win in a shootout. Next was the championship game: Northeastern vs. Boston University. As mentioned, this game will go down in history for Women's hockey. For the 19th time in program history the Northeastern Huskies took the Beanpot title. The game was a nail-biter, as the score remained tight for the entire duration. Northeastern held a 1-0 lead going into the third period, and not until there was 58.1 second remaining in the game did Boston University answer with a goal.

The game was then taken to overtime, where Northeastern certainly asserted their dominance. Just 27 seconds in, Sylar Irving of Northeastern scored her second goal of the night, securing the win for the Huskies. This inspiring game was incredible not only to watch the play, but to watch all the little girls in the stands idolizing the players and witnessing history.

For the men, this was the 75th Beanpot tournament. These series of games were compacted with outstanding fan bases filling the arena as well as some unbelievable performances on the ice.

In the semi final games, Boston University faced rival Boston College and Northeastern faced Harvard. The Eagles vs. Terriers rivalry game received an incredible turnout, and eventually Boston College fell to Boston University in a close 4-3 game. As for Northeastern vs. Harvard, Northeastern took the rigorous win 3-2 in an overtime heartbreaker.

Their champion and consolation games took place on February 12th at TD Garden and were certainly filled with loads of excitement. First up was yet again the Boston Eagles vs. Harvard. These teams battled hard to earn the third place title. Boston College came out with a stunning 5-0 win to earn themselves that title. Proceeding this consolation game was the Men's finals! Boston University and Northeastern played with a fully packed arena of giant fan bases. This came was not only a battle on the ice, but off the ice amongst the student sections. Although Boston University out shot Northeastern during the duration of the game, it wasn't enough. After a tough back and forth game, Northeastern came out victorious with a 4-3 victory in overtime.

Both the women’s and men’s Beanpot games were especially impressive this year, and it is exciting to see women’s hockey gaining more recognition. It's definitely a good month to be a Northeastern Husky, as they will certainly be celebrating their wins amongst both the Men and women's teams.
