The week of March 3rd-7th was National School Breakfast Week, and the cafeteria staff found creative ways to celebrate.
New breakfast options were offered throughout the week, such as avocado toast and breakfast pizza. Fan favorites included the Dutch Snowflake Waffle, the Acai Berry Delight, and the frosted donut with yummy toppings. Additionally, every student who got breakfast was entered into a daily raffle for a chance to win $10 added to their lunch account.
The cafeteria staff also came up with an "Egg Scavenger Hunt." Participants searched for papers hidden around the school marked with a picture of an egg. The back of the paper required students to answer a trivia question about breakfast. Every day students who turned in their eggs were entered into a daily raffle to win prizes including a burrito blanket, a JBL speaker, and an Owala water bottle.
A raffle winner, myself, I received a Premium Blanket Hoodie that is perfect for the cold winter months. In addition, all students who submitted eggs got put into a large raffle to win grand prizes, such as Beats headphones. The winners were announced the following Monday. Overall, the scavenger hunt was a huge success. Students who were motivated by the prizes found over 200 eggs hidden around DHS.
"The National School Breakfast Week egg hunt was a huge success," said Jeanne Johnson, Director of Food and Nutrition Services here at DHS. "It was great to see students engaged, having fun, and learning about the importance of a healthy breakfast. From water bottles to Beats headphones, the excitement over prizes made it even better. We’d definitely do it again next year!"
