The Marauder field hockey team celebrated its five seniors alongside their family, friends, and teammates on October 27th with a 6-1 win over Ursuline Academy.

The team came out strong and hungry for victory, with Captain Julia Ray scoring the first goal of the game, making it a 1-0 game followed by goals scored by Captain Giovanna (GG) Lowney, Riley Williams, Ava Iantosca, MaryKate Cronin, and Grace Bender.

Captain Giovanna Lowney: Lowney has been a forward on the DHS field hockey team since eighth grade, making this her fifth year as a Marauder. She was out of action most of the season due to an injury, but didn't let that stop her. She put in continuous effort to improve her game “The team has impacted my season in a really positive way.  We have great chemistry on and off the field," she says.

Captain Julia Ray: Ray has played forward on the team for five years, starting in the eighth grade. She shows up to every practice ready to work hard and keeps the team focused, ensuring everyone is their best on the field. When we asked about the senior night game, she said, “We played together throughout the whole game and it was a great win for the team.”

Ava Iantosca: Iantosca has been a part of the team for the past two years. She began as a junior and has worked tremendously hard to be the player she is today. Her game has improved consistently: “The team has made this season so much fun and they made my last year a blast!”

Delaney Smith: Smith has played on the team since she was a sophomore. Throughout past seasons, she has improved both her game by making exceptional plays and helping her teammates score goals: “The team had a big impact on my season. They're the main reason I decided to stick with field hockey.”

Danielle O’Neill: O'Neill has played on the team since her Junior year and has worked extensively hard throughout the season to improve her game and skills. She was able to make amazing plays and create consistent opportunities for her teammates to take the ball and score: “The team was determined to play their hardest, which made it a fulfilling season. We had so much fun both on and off the field.”

Not only did the seniors help to secure a spot in the MIAA tournament, but this awesome group of girls made sure to have fun at every game and practice this season.

The field hockey team will take on Newburyport in the second round of the MIAA tournament on Wednesday.
