Broadway theaters will remain dark through May 30th amidst rising Coronavirus numbers.
In person performances have been closed since March, causing several shows to have to close their curtains for good. As of now, theaters have no intention of reopening their doors until at least June 2021.
Several new shows than planned on premiering this year, including Diana, The Music Man, MJ the Musical, The Minutes, and American Buffalo, have not been able to open. Other long running shows such as Chicago, the Phantom of the Opera, The Lion King, and many more plan to reopen their doors when given the chance, but newer shows may not be as lucky.
Shows such as Jagged Little Pill, Sing Street, Moulin Rouge, and Tina, were able to open right before the shutdown, have their fingers crossed that they will be able to come back as well. The recent Tony Awards announcements shed some hope on these shows, mainly Moulin Rouge and Jagged Little Pill, providing a chance to win their awards virtually and be selling tickets as soon as the theaters are reopened.
Not only is Broadway shut down, but shows touring across the country have either been cancelled, postponed, or are in attempts to reschedule. Shows such as Frozen, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Cher Show, My Fair Lady, Fiddler on the Roof, Mean Girls, The Band's Visit, Anastasia, and Donna Summer the Musical, are still waiting to see what the future of their productions hold.
