Senior Avery O'Connor comes up against junior Catherine Sargent.
DHS played its 50th annual powderpuff game on November 23rd.
The first powderpuff match at DHS, where junior girls competed against senior girls in a game of flag football, was held in 1971.
This year's game game was organized by junior class advisors Mr. Norman and Ms. Gavrity and senior class Advisors Mrs. Jacques and Mrs. McGran. Field hockey coach Ms. McDonald and boys football coach Mike Cloutier acted as referees.
“I thought it was a great game," said senior Alyssa Keane. "Everyone came out and tried their hardest.”
The senior girls immediately scored with a rushing touchdown by Keane, putting them ahead early on. However, the juniors responded quickly with their secret weapon: Lily Roslonek. With a quick hand off from Julia Friday, Roslonek ran the ball in for a touchdown, tying the game. The score of the highly competitive game went back and forth, ultimately resulting in a 6-6 tie.
“The powderpuff experience definitely contributed to my list of positive high school memories," said Roslonek. "Getting to face the senior class, as well as being on the field with my class all playing one sport, was super fun. I’m excited for next year!”
