Unpopular Opinions with Caroline

Unpopular opinions are never as unpopular as they seem. Sometimes you just need to say them because, believe it or not, someone out there is going to agree with you. Life is too short to pretend to like something that everyone else likes, and it's also too short to pretend to hate something that everyone else hates. So without further ado, here are some more of my unpopular opinions.

13 Reasons Why is probably one of the most popular TV shows on Netflix, but it is also probably one of the worst. 13 Reasons Why follows Clay Jensen, a young high school student, as he deals with the death of his close friend, Hannah Baker, who died of suicide. Before her death, Hannah recorded thirteen cassette tapes, each of her talking about one reason why she decided to kill herself. Suicide is a very heavy topic that needs to be handled with great respect, and for me, this show doesn’t do that. The writers failed to talk about anything mental health related and showed some images that would be considered very disturbing to someone who is struggling with depression or suicidal thoughts. This show and those who are a part of it say that 13 Reasons Why is a big step forward in representing the struggles of mental health, but in my (unpopular) opinion, it is just a slap in the face to those who actually struggle.

Kendall Jenner is by far the worst Kardashian-Jenner. From watching Keeping up with The Kardashians for so many years, I’ve come to the conclusion that Kendall Jenner is probably the most ignorant of the family and definitely doesn’t recognize her own privilege. She has obviously had a very successful modeling career, walking in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and practically being the center of attention during fashion week. In regards to her modeling career, Jenner has repeatedly said that she worked hard for her career and didn’t use her family for help at all. Jenner clearly doesn’t realize her own privilege, because even if she didn’t directly use her family members to get modelling gigs, that doesn’t change the fact that she is a part of the most famous families in America.

Mark Wahlberg’s Boston accent is definitely fake. A native of Dorchester, he plays a guy from Boston in most of his movies. I think he lost his natural accent, however. If you watch recent interviews he’s given, he clearly speaks in a “regular” American accent. My theory is that he became so well known as the actor from Boston, that he felt he had an image to keep up, so he developed a faux Boston accent.
