Once upon a time on the 31th of October, Jack, the local blacksmith, was in a pub, drinking tons of beer. At Midnight the Devil appeared to jack saying that he wanted his soul. Jack said to the devil that before dyeing he wanted more beer. Then the devil became a penny that Jack putted in his purse. In the purse there was an iron cross, the devil could not return to his original form. Jack said to the devil that if he would leave his soul in peace for the years, he would leave the devil in peace. Jack encountered the devil in a forest to take his soul. Jack asked to the devil to take him an apple from a tree. While the devil was taking the apple, jack carved a cross a tree. The couldn't move because of the cross. Jack said to the devil that if he took his soul he would stay there forever. The devil accepted. When Jack died he couldn't go to the paradise or to the hell because of his pact with the devil. So jack took a lantern and put it in a pumpkin to protect it from the wind. Now the soul of jack is still wandering in the soul land. Now people to protect themselves from spirits put lanterns in pumpkin to let the spirits remember about jack and runaway.
