The September 14, 2002 meeting of the Science Fiction Association of Bergen County was hosted by Robert Yeager and family at their home in Paramus, New Jersey.
The Anime Associates event actually began at 7:00 PM, with an episode of RANMA 1/2 preceding the main event, the movie, PORCO ROSSO. Joining facilitator Taras Wolansky in the Pink Room were Elizabeth Belisle, Chris Hasselkus, William Molendyk, Jim Spinosa, and Stephen Spinosa.
The Final Frontier discussion of Cardassians and Romulans was held in the Round Room. Todd Ehrenfels led a discussion attended by Paul Einstein, Kate Landis, Debra Matofsky, John Upton, and Pamela Webber.
The Spanish Room was the setting for one of our best-attended Writers' Critiques. "Yerba Buena," a magical realism Fairie Tale by Pauline Alama, was the only story critiqued. The work was read by Michael Piazza and Sharon Roberg, with Patricia Nash running the event. Others in attendance were Patti Ann Combs, Nancy Denker, Mary Ann Denny, Charles Garofalo, Glenn McColgan, Monique McColgan, Michael Penncavage, Greg Roman, Asta Sinusas and Carol Smith.
A different trio of events was scheduled for the 9:30 PM slot: an AD&D Game, a book discussion, and a movie.
The Fantasy Gamers group featured Philip De Parto running a modified Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Game for Todd Ehrenfels, Robert Laguna, Damon McColgan, Mary Nash, Patricia Nash, Sharon Roberg, and Carol Smith. This was held in the Spanish Room. Due to time constraints, the Game Master did some rules simplification. Even so, the event ran a half hour longer than planned. The players seemed to feel that things went well and a couple are interested in continuing the campaign. Neo gamers Pat and Mary Nash enjoyed that their first exposure did not require a large investment of time and set up.
To Be Continued.
