The following account is reprinted with permission from THE STARSHIP EXPRESS Copyright 1997 Philip J De Parto:

The March meeting of the Association was pushed back one week, to March 15, 1997, to avoid conflicting with Lunacon. Attendance was slightly lighter than usual, but this solution seemed to work best for the greatest number of people.

Keith De Candido was the guest speaker. Mr De Candido broke into the field as the co-host and co-producer of THE CHRONIC RIFT, a public access cable show about science fiction in New York City that lasted four years.

He spoke about his work as Science Fiction Editor at Byron Preiss where he worked as a writer and an editor of a number of books tied into Marvel Comics characters (which he described as crazy but fun), as coeditor of the anthology, OTHERWERE (lots of strange were/wolf/hamster, etc stories), and his work editing books by Alfred Bester and others (very satisfying).

Afterter the mid-meeting break, we tried something different. Keith said that he had run out of things to say and would like to read "UNITed We Fall," a DOCTOR WHO story he had written for DOCTOR WHO: DECALOG 3: CONSEQUENCES. Since not everyone in the group are fans of DOCTOR WHO, or of readings in general, we split the meeting in two. About 16 people thoroughly enjoyed the story. The rest of the group either left or discussed matters elsewhere in the building.

Keith and his wife, Marina Frants, were extremely friendly both at the meeting and at East Side Marios afterwards.
