The Science Fiction Association of Bergen County last met on Saturday, October 11, 2003. Robert Yeager and his father, William, were again gracious enough to allow the club to hold a gathering in their Paramus domicile.

The Association reprised the format used for last year's meeting at this location. Instead of scheduling a guest speaker, a variety of events occurred throughout the evening in various rooms in the house. This included screening a movie, showing anime, running a Dungeons & Dragons Game, and having a meeting of the Writers' Critique Group. Robert Yeager spiced the evening by hiring a magician, serving copious amounts of food, and giving a tour of the house.

The Anime Associates were the first group to commence operations. Taras Wolansky took advantage of the extra time by screening the movie, CASTLE IN THE SKY, in the Pink Room on the second floor. Joining Taras were Elizabeth Belisle, Paul Dellechiaie, Nancy Denker, Chris Hasselkus, Steve Herr, and Maia Leibowitz.

The Final Frontier was one of two events to kick off an hour later. Vincent Carlucci led a discussion of Alien Sidekicks in Science Fiction. One of the newcomers from the Ramapo College Science Fiction Club offered: "As far as I'm concerned, Superman is Bruce Wayne's alien sidekick." The discussion was in the TV room on the first floor and was attended by Lilli Borno, Roy Greenberg, John Knab, Theresa Mark, Debra Matofsky, William Muller, Matthew Pierce, Christopher Rasa, Pamela Webber, and Barry Weinberger.

This year's Writers' Critique Group was an intimate group, unlike last year's edition, with Charles Garofalo, Patricia Nash, and Sharon Roberg gathering for the conclusion of Chuck's Lovecraftian Western, "Showdown in Jacksontown."

At 9:30 PM, the school bell rang and classes changed.

Fearing that his guests would be bored by the proceedings, Robert Yeager again decided to schedule his own entertainment and hired Larry Roberts, a professional magician. In the "It's a small world department," Lawrence and Jackie Soria knew one of Mr Roberts' associates, as they happen to live next door to another professional magician.

Nonetheless, Mr Roberts kept his audience entertained with card tricks, balloons, and a variety of other magic tricks in the basement.

The downside to this unannounced extra was that it siphoned off a number of people who would otherwise have attended one of the second tier of scheduled events. Paul Dellechiaie called off the Science & Science Fiction book discussion, while the other two groups barely managed to keep things together.

William Molendyk managed to corral Todd Ehrenfels, Charles Garofalo, and Sharon Roberg as players for a one shot Advanced Dungeons & Dragons adventure. Steve Herr was able to expose Elizabeth Belisle, Chris Hasselkus, and Pamela Webber to the cult fave flick, BLUE VELVET.

We again thank Robert and William Yeager for opening their abode to the group, and for all their efforts in preparation for and clean up after the event, and making us welcome.
